چکیده

A bstract. Soybean, Glycine max L., and elodea, Elodea canadensis Michx, leaves were exposed to sublethal and lethal temperatures and examined by light microscopy. Loss of ohlorophyll and swollen chloroplasts were observed in cells of elodea leaves exposed to sublethal temperatures. At the thermal death point of leaf cells of elodea and soybean, there was a disorganization of the tonoplast membrane, plasmalemma, and chloroplast membranes. Approximately 40% of the cells in elodea and 50 % of the cells in soybean leaves exhibited oriteria of cell death when exposed to a temperature which induced necrotic leaf tissue. Plasmolysis of leaf cells of elodea and soybean occurred at lethal temperatures, but did not appear to be the primary oause of cellular death. The primary effect of lethal temperatures

The Effect of Acclimation to Sublethal Temperature on Subsequent Susceptibility of Sitophilus zeamais Mostchulsky (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) to High Temperatures

Heat treatment is a popular alternative to synthetic pesticides in disinfesting food-processing facilities and empty grain storages. Sitophilus zeamais Mostchulsky is one of the most cosmopolitan and destructive insects found in empty grain storage facilities and processing facilities. The effect of acclimation in S. zeamais adults to sublethal high temperature on their subsequent susceptibilit...

Hematological changes in Tinca tinca after exposure to lethal and sublethal doses of Mercury, Cadmium and Lead

Tench, Tinca tinca, were exposed to three treatments (one acute lethal 96 hrs Lc50/48 hrs and two chronic sublethal 10 and 25% Lc50/504 hrs) each of Mercury, Cadmium and Lead and its behaviour as an indicator of impaired hematology was studied. It was observed that impairments in hematological parameters (increased/decreased Hct, Hb, RBC, WBC and Lct) were reflected in behaviour of fish in the ...

Effect of ischemic preconditioning on the expression of c-myb in the CA1 region of the gerbil hippocampus after ischemia/reperfusion injury

Objective(s): In the present study, we investigated the effect of ischemic preconditioning (IPC) on c-myb immunoreactivity as well as neuronal damage/death after a subsequent lethal transient ischemia in gerbils. Materials and Methods: IPC was subjected to a 2 min sublethal ischemia and a lethal transient ischemia was given 5 min transient ischemia. The animals in all of the groups were given ...

The Growth and Death of Tissue Cultures Exposed to Supranormal Temperatures

In a study of the growth of chicken osteoblasts in cultures exposed to supranormal temperatures of 42 degrees C., 44 degrees C., 47 degrees C., 50 degrees C., and 52 degrees C., it has been observed that: 1. There is no lethal effect after prolonged exposures at 42 degrees C. and 44 degrees C. 2. Cultures are killed after an exposure of 105 minutes at 47 degrees C., of 6 minutes at 50 degrees C...
